On the second day of the ISAF Grade 3 Laser Northeast Brazilian Championship in Fortaleza conditions were perfect with winds of 14-22 knots. Medium seas and air temperature of 28°C added up to a great day’s sailing with Olympic Champion Robert SCHEIDT making the most of the conditions.
With the ISAF Grade W Laser World Championship being held in Fortaleza in less than two weeks time, the Brazilians offer an excellent chance to get used to the waters and the conditions. As a result most of the members of the Brazilian team, including number one in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings and reigning World Champion
SCHEIDT, are taking part with a total of 33 sailors from nine Brazilian states competing in the Championship.
So far the World number one has been a class apart winning all four races, although the battle behind him is tight with just four points separating Bruno FONTES, Eduardo COUTO and Andrè STREPPEL in second to fourth places respectively.
A close battle for first has developed in the Laser Radial fleet with Tiago CÔRTES RODRIGUES just a point ahead of Daniel NOTTINGHAM BENEVIDES AZEVEDO, after scoring a bullet in race four. These two have opened up a gap at the top with twelve points separating them from Diego MOURA NOTTINGHAM, Aldo CEZAR COSTA GUIMARÃES and Alexandre NEVES ALMEIDA who are in a three-way tied for third.
In the Laser 4.7, Ruy DE AZEVEDO GUIMARÃES NETO leads after a second place and three bullets.
